Police Orders Arrest of Plain clothed officers, Civilians Impounding Boda bodas
The festive crackdown on Boda boda riders was launched on Monday November 07, to regulate activities of operators on the road.
SCP Steven Tanui, the Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police, has directed the all boda boda operators to resist arrests by plain clothed police officers and civilians in the ongoing operation.
According to directives issued by the commander, any plain clothed police officers and civilians found confiscating motorcycles will be arrested and charged in courts of law.

Under the operation, all riders found without reflector jackets , helmets and PSV permits are being arrested. In addition to that Boda boda riders with motorcycles in dangerous mechanical conditions, without front mirrors and those found disregarding traffic regulations have equally been targeted.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango,says anui directed that all operations on boda bodas should be carried out by Police Officers in uniform and under the command of Traffic Personnel .
Onyango says the commander has warned the public and bodaboda cyclists not to obey the directive of anybody in civilian clothes during these operations.
He says that any officer who is found using civilians to impound people’s motorcycles should be arrested together with the civilian.
He explains that no boda boda riders are allowed to impound a motorcycle of a fellow rider,and those found will be arrested and charged accordingly.
The Commander has also cautioned security personnel to be professional and smart while regulating boda bodas.
The ongoing operation happening countrywide has led to police seizing a total of 6,374 motorcycles country-wide and issuing 4,926 EPS tickets.
