Officers serving in the Karamoja Sub-region have been called upon to maintain high standards of discipline and morale in the execution of their duties, as the Uganda Police Force undertakes a critical needs assessment of the region’s operations.
The appeal was made by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Byabagye Moses, who is part of a nine-member delegation from the Inspectorate Department currently on a working tour in the region. The team is assessing the operational readiness, challenges, and general welfare of personnel attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU).
Addressing officers during one of the engagements, ACP Byabagye emphasized the importance of professionalism, noting that discipline and morale remain essential to effective service delivery, especially in security-sensitive areas like Karamoja.
“Remain focused, stay disciplined, and serve with dedication. The leadership of the Police Force is aware of your challenges and is actively working towards improving your welfare. There are positive changes ahead,” ACP Byabagye assured.
The ongoing assessment seeks to gather firsthand insights into the conditions under which ASTU officers operate, with the goal of informing future interventions that will enhance the effectiveness of anti-stock theft operations in the region.
Karamoja has long grappled with cattle rustling and armed violence, making the work of ASTU critical to maintaining peace and security. The Inspectorate team is expected to conclude its tour later this week after visiting several ASTU detachments across the sub-region.
