Police in Kihurura district have arrested one of their own for loosing a gun to unknown assailants.

Corporal Wilson Nuwagira attached to Sanga Police station in Kiruhura district lost a gun from the armory he was guarding on Sunday.

According to the Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga says preliminary findings indicate that Nuwagira was not attacked as its claimed but one gun was stolen from the  seven firearms in the armory while Nuwagira was on guard.

He says that Nuwagira only created uproar after the gun was discovered missing.

He further states that Nuwagira remains in police custody as police establish whether Nuwagira handed over the fire arm to his attackers or it was stolen from the armory due to negligence on duty.

Safari Mugyenyi, the LC III Chairperson of Sanga Town Council and the head of security in the town council, says that Nuwagira signed out the gun out but failed to sign it back in the morning.

Edson Asaba Nkojo, the Kiruhura District Resident District Commissioner said he was not aware of any missing gun in the district noting that he was out of office.

The incident comes as  security institutions suffer attacks in various parts of the country.

On Saturday, a soldier and two assailants died in Kapeeka Town council following an attack on a security patrol unit.
