Police in Buyende have taken into custody three suspects including a former MP aspirant in connection with an attempted robbery and fraud .
The suspects include; Sempa Vincent – a former MP aspirant for Buyende West, Isaac Musoke Robert – the driver of Sempa Vincent, Tiya Ndimulodi -an army officer attached to the Fisheries Protection Unit.
The three were arrested after they attempted to rob mercury from the residence of Mzeeyi Bamwegobye Mutwaire, a dealer operating from in Busikwe village, Gumpi sub-county, Buyende district. The residence operates a German Store dealing in mercury.
Fred Enanga , the police spokesperson says the suspects disguised as buyers arrived with the intention of using chloroform to incapacitate the sellers and steal the mercury from them. However, during their attempt, one of Mutwaire’s sons raised an alarm, which alerted the residents.
Enanga says in response to the alarm, angry locals in a mob pounced on two suspected thugs including; Fredrick Ngobi and Muhammad, killing them on spot.
He says police arrived at the scene and arrested the thugs alongside two other individuals involved in mob justice.
He further explains that suspects have been brought to court to face charges related to the attempted robbery and murder. The police have emphasized their commitment to pursuing individuals involved in mob justice and maintaining law and order in the region.
