In a major security drive, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested 100 suspects during coordinated operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area on 23rd March 2026.

The operations, intelligence-led and prompted by rising public complaints about crime, targeted various hotspots known for social disorder, noise pollution, gambling, and related criminal activities such as burglary and theft.

At Kira Division, police swooped on Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone, arresting 34 suspects. In Entebbe Division, operations in Kawafu and Abaita Ababiri areas led to 46 arrests. Meanwhile, Kajjansi Town Council saw 17 suspects taken into custody following raids in KKB Zone, Ssanyi Village, Dewey Village, and Kawali Village.

Operations at Jinja Road Division in Kilombe and Kakiri in Namayumba resulted in 7 arrests each.

Police said the operations specifically targeted criminal gangs involved in robberies, phone snatching, narcotic abuse, and attacks on pedestrians, particularly at night. Several exhibits, including suspected narcotics, were recovered during the raids.

All 100 suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing ahead of court proceedings.

SP Kawala Racheal, Police Public Relations Officer for KMP, confirmed the arrests, emphasizing that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to restore order and enhance safety across Kampala and its neighboring areas.
