Police at Kira Division are investigating the cause of a tragic house fire that killed six members of the same family in the early hours of Thursday morning in Bukasa, Kirinya, Bweyogerere, Wakiso District.

The incident, reported at around 3:00 AM, was marked by a loud blast heard by residents near the home of Fred Ssekibila, 45. Neighbors who attempted to rescue those inside were overwhelmed by the intensity of the fire.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan says Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded promptly, containing the blaze before it could spread to surrounding homes. However, upon gaining access to the debris, investigators discovered the bodies of all six occupants.

The deceased have been identified as Fred Ssekibila, Gonja Winnie Fred, Nabuya Gloria, Nakakira Peace, Nakamya Helena, and Nebula Briyan. Their bodies were taken to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, preliminary investigations, based on statements from friends suggest that Ssekibila may have been showing signs of suicidal behavior prior to the incident. This theory remains under review as the investigation continues.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family and community affected by this incident. Police remain committed to uncovering the full truth,”he  said
