Police Investigate Allegations of Shooting Involving NUP Leader Kyagulanyi
Uganda Police have launched an investigation into claims that Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), was shot and injured this evening in Bulindo, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Earlier in the day, Kyagulanyi was a guest at a thanksgiving ceremony hosted by Mr. George Musisi, a lawyer affiliated with the NUP, at his residence in Bulindo. According to police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the event concluded without incident, and Kyagulanyi and his team left the venue peacefully.
However, tensions arose when Kyagulanyi and his entourage decided to continue their journey on foot through Bulindo town, despite police advisories against it. The police intervened to manage the crowd and prevent the road from being blocked.
During the ensuing altercation, conflicting reports emerged regarding how Kyagulanyi sustained his injuries. Police on the scene claim that Kyagulanyi stumbled while attempting to get back into his vehicle, which led to the injury. In contrast, Kyagulanyi’s team asserts that he was shot during the confrontation.
In response to the incident, ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Kyagulanyi’s injuries. “We are thoroughly investigating the allegations to establish what truly transpired,” Rusoke stated.
Following the incident, Kyagulanyi was initially taken to Najaeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for emergency treatment. He was subsequently transferred to Nsambya Hospital, where he is currently receiving further medical care.
The investigation aims to clarify the details of the altercation and address the discrepancies between the police and Kyagulanyi’s accounts. As the situation develops, both the public and media await further updates on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
