Police have intensified disruptive operations across the Kampala Metropolitan area as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks linked to drug abuse, robbery, theft, and other unlawful activities.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, the operations are aimed at restoring safety in communities and denying criminals space to operate. “In a bid to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug abuse, robbery, theft, and other unlawful activities within the Kampala Metropolitan Area, police have continued to conduct disruptive operations aimed at combating criminality,” Kawala said.

On the night of 1st February 2026 at about 11:00 pm, a joint police operation was conducted in Kigombya, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District. The operation targeted a mapped-out black spot known for harbouring criminals engaged in smoking marijuana, waylaying, and robbing members of the public. “During the operation, a total of 11 suspects were arrested from a known black spot. The suspects are currently in police custody pending prosecution,” Kawala confirmed.

In a related operation, Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), working together with local leaders, carried out a disruptive operation codenamed “Fukuza Mafisadi” on 30th January 2026 at around 6:00 pm. The operation covered several areas within the city, including Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, the Electoral Commission area, and Mukwano.

Kawala explained that the operation specifically targeted groups of youth who loiter at identified black spots before engaging in criminal acts. “These individuals often wait at black spots and later snatch mobile phones and bags, or steal vehicle parts from wananchi stuck in traffic jams,” she said.

A total of 100 suspects were arrested during the operation and are expected to be arraigned in court. “Police remain committed to ensuring safety and law and order across the metropolitan area. We will continue with these operations and call upon the public to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities,” Kawala added.

The operations form part of a broader strategy by Kampala Metropolitan Police to disrupt organized criminal activity and enhance public safety across the city and surrounding areas.
