The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) South and East have intensified intelligence-led operations, arresting more than 100 suspects in a two-day crackdown on criminal hubs across the region. The operations, conducted between 28 and 29 October 2025, targeted areas notorious for drug abuse, street crime, and violent robberies.

According to Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations were part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order as the country heads into the busy end-of-year period and heightened campaign season. “We have zero tolerance for criminality. These targeted operations are aimed at dismantling criminal networks and keeping our communities safe, especially as we move into a sensitive period of increased public activity and political gatherings,” said ASP Owoyesigyire.

In Kampala Central Division, 40 suspects were picked up from black spots linked to theft of motor vehicle parts and street robberies. In Kira Municipality  covering Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma, Kungu, Buwate, and Najjera, seven suspects were arrested with suspected narcotics. Police also recovered a toy gun believed to have been used in robbery attempts.

A similar operation in Kajjansi Division led to the arrest of 45 suspects from Ngobe, Sseguku, and Kajjansi town, following reports of early-morning robberies in the area. In Mukono, a joint sweep in Kyugu and the Kisenyi–Degeya zone resulted in nine arrests, with suspected narcotics recovered. All suspects are currently detained at respective police stations pending screening and prosecution.

A toy gun was among the items the police found in possession of suspected criminals during the operation.

ASP Owoyesigyire urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security forces. “As we approach the festive season and continue with political activities across the country, we urge the public to stay vigilant, report suspicious individuals or activities, and avoid confrontation during gatherings,” he said.

Police noted that the end-of-year period typically attracts opportunistic crimes due to increased movement, night-time activities, and business transactions. Residents and the public have been encouraged to secure their property, be cautious in isolated areas, and prioritize personal safety.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and public safety across the region.
