Police Identify Injured Victims in Rukiga Gateway Bus Crash

Police have identified the names of the individuals injured in a road accident involving a Gateway bus that overturned early Sunday morning along the Ntungamo–Kabale highway in Rwabahazi village, Rukiga district.

The accident, which occurred at approximately 6:10 AM, involved a Scania bus (registration number UBM 707X) traveling from Kampala to Kabale. According to police and eyewitness reports, the bus failed to negotiate a corner, veered off the road, knocked a pedestrian, and overturned in a trench.

The injured include:

  • Dafuroza Rwakinda, a pedestrian, who sustained critical injuries

  • Karim Balabye, 54, the bus driver, from Bugembe in Jinja District

  • Asumpta Kyomuhangi, 40, from Nansana

  • Ronnie Nowamani, 18, from Nansana

  • Blaire Nowamani, 14

  • Brandon Nowembabazi, 11, from Kabale District

  • Patience Busingye, 49

  • Benson Kiconco, 55, from Kampala

  • Pauson Asimwe, 40, from Rubanda District

  • Richard Basisha, 34, a Rwandan national

  • Tracy Ninsima, 21, from Muhanga Town Council

According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the victims were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and ROTOM Health Centre in Muhanga for emergency treatment. Rwakinda remains in a critical state.

The wreckage of the bus has been towed to Muhanga Police Station for mechanical inspection as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
