The Police in Kyenjojo are investigating circumstances under which six people perished and eight others were injured in a head-on collision.
The accident happened on the Fort Portal-Kyenjojo road at Mukunyu Trading Center when a speeding trailer lost control and rammed into a passenger taxi at about 6 pm on Tuesday evening.
According to Vincent Twesige, the police spokesperson in the Rwenzori region, the driver of a truck failed to brake and rammed into a commuter taxi coming from the opposite direction of the road. He explains that the trailer was empty and moving at a breakneck speed while trying to negotiate a sharp corner along Rugombe slope.
He attributes the accident to reckless driving on the part of the trailer driver who is currently on the run.
He says that the injured were rushed to Kyenjojo General Hospital in a critical state as some sustained deep cuts on the head, legs, and stomach area.
Twesigye has called on drivers to exercise caution on the road and always check to ensure their cars are in proper medical condition before they hit the road.
