Police Hunt for Assailant in Violent Nateete Robbery Attack

Nateete police are hunting for an assailant captured on viral CCTV footage, wielding a panga and machete during a violent robbery attempt on a businessman.

The incident happened on May 13th, 2024, around 8:00 PM, at Nateete ku taano. The victim, identified as Mr. Turyamuhaki Sam, a 55-year-old businessperson and a resident of Kabawo Zone, Lubaga Division, Kampala District was attacked during a routine financial transaction at Bashir Grain Millers.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Turyamuhaki, while engaged in verifying a substantial sum of 8 million Ugandan Shillings received from Bashir, an employee named Kiiza Ashiraf unexpectedly burst into the office carrying a sack.

The situation quickly escalated when Kiiza pulled out a machete and a hammer, demanding the money from Turyamuhaki. A violent struggle ensued, during which Turyamuhaki suffered severe head injuries inflicted by the assailant’s weapons while he tried to defend himself. Fortunately,  courageous bystanders intervened and subdued the suspect, allowing Turyamuhaki to receive urgent medical attention.

Owoyesigyire says evidence, including the weapons used in the assault including a hammer and a machete were recovered. Additionally, CCTV footage from the premises has been secured to aid in the ongoing investigation into this disturbing incident.

He notes that the assailant managed to flee the scene and is currently evading capture. Police is now pursuing all leads and mobilizing resources to apprehend the suspect.

The police urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
