Police Force Issues Warning Against Unauthorised March to Parliament

The Uganda Police Force has issued a stern warning regarding ongoing mobilization efforts on social media that are calling for people to march to Parliament.

Unidentified organizers have been circulating placards urging the public to participate in this march, raising concerns about the potential for disorder and lack of transparency.

Police spokesman ACP Rusoke Kituuma has expressed strong reservations about the planned march, citing the potential for disorder and public safety risks.

“Given the lack of transparency and potential for disorder, we strongly warn against proceeding with this march,” he stated.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, the police emphasized that they will not tolerate any attempts to incite public disorder. “The right to a peaceful protest will be respected, but police will not tolerate attempts to incite public disorder,” he added.

The Uganda Police Force urged those wishing to exercise their rights, such as the right to assembly and demonstration, to work collaboratively with the authorities.

“We urge persons who wish to exercise their rights to always work collaboratively with us to ensure that they don’t aid persons with ulterior motives to hijack their expressions to accomplish criminal intentions,” the spokesperson said.

Rusoke reiterated their readiness to guide individuals in exercising their rights without compromising public safety. “We are ready and open to guide people in the exercise of their rights, but without at any one point jeopardizing public safety,” the spokesperson concluded.
