Police Confirm Two Arrests in Foiled Equity Bank Robbery

According  to a statement by police on the attempted robbery at Equity Bank in Soroti City, two suspects are in custody over the foiled heist.

Police Spokesman Fred Enanga, said on Tuesday that the incident occurred today April 23, 2024, prompting a joint task force from the police and UPDF to quickly mobilize and secure the bank premises.

The arrested individuals include a security guard and his supervisor, who are currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations.

While the suspects managed to evade capture during the attempted robbery,  police have the duo in for questioning.

Enanga reported that the suspects failed to access the banking hall and avert any potential harm to staff or customers. 

“Our joint task team from the police and UPDF responded swiftly and staged at the bank.Our prior investigations indicate that the suspects escaped from the scene after failing to access the banking hall.” he said

He assured the public that despite the attempted robbery, no property or money was stolen, and no injuries were reported.

He emphasized that the bank is now secure, with operations returning to normalcy. Additionally, he reassured residents that the overall security situation in Soroti City remains peaceful and calm.
