Police in Jinja City yesterday blocked presidential candidate, Nancy Kalembe from holding a procession in Jinja town.

Kalembe was set to launch her manifesto at Kakindu stadium on Thursday, however, the preparations for the launch which comprised of the procession along the different streets of Jinja town ended prematurely.

As Kalembe was waving to her supporters who were standing on the roadside ahead of her manifesto launch, police officers attached to Field Force unit blocked her along Main Street citing guidelines to curb the further spread of the deadly COVI-19 pandemic.

It should be noted that several opposition candidates have continued to hold processions and rallies prompting the Electoral Commission to demand police action.

The NRM presidential candidate who is also the incumbent is still the only candidate who has encouraged his supporters to stay home and receive the message through mass media. Mr Museveni has opted for small meetings with party leaders where he unpacks the NRM manifesto. He then encourages the leaders to pass on the message in a safer door to door campaign that poses a low risk of the COVID-19 spread.
