Police Arrests 80 Suspects in Crackdown on Criminal Activities
Police have arrested a total of 80 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting criminal activities in various parts of Kampala Metropolitan area.
The suspects, involved in crimes ranging from robbery to drug possession, were captured during coordinated efforts by the police, crime intelligence units, and the flying squad.
In Kabalagala division, an operation was conducted on June 10, 2024, in areas including Wabigalo parish, Kisugu, Kibuli, and Namuwongo. It targeted thugs who have been robbing people using motorcycles, assaulting victims with pavers, and cutting them with pangas. Additionally, the operation aimed at promoters who buy stolen property, such as mobile phones.
A total of 48 suspects were arrested in Kabalagala, including ;Kabenge Badru, Kasirye Adam, Okidi David, Kabuye Muhammed, Lubega David, Sserugo Geofrey, Wasike Patrick, Jiddi Muhammed, Joakim Lehmann, Lubwama Fahad, Owori Ali, Ogwal Benson, Kiyimba Eddy, Kato Saul, Wandera Douglas, Abdullah Ryan, Mubiru Salongo, Mike Bukenya, Tusubira Godfrey, Mukigulu Richard, Onen Kasim, Mpijja Bright, Ahebwa Julius, Sebalu Ibrahim, Makkasi Reagan, Ojakawette Sudaisi, Semaganda Pius, Byarugaba Charles, Okurut Calvin, Wamini Bashir, Nsamba Gilbert, Mukasa Marvin, John Jessy Wine, Otim Benjamin, Mabonga Benard, Kibengo David, Serugo Shafiq, Kyaligonza Livingston, Namisi Gilbert, Ojara Job, Mutesasira Ibrahim, Kanyike John, Odong Karim, Otim Michael, Boaz Mugisha, Kalyango Geofrey, Mahatan Benard, and Bashir Yakub.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, says during this operation, three motorcycles were also impounded: UGC 761Q, UFY 376M, and UDM 807F.
He adds that another operation on June 11, 2024, in Kabalagala led to the arrest of eight notorious criminals, including Senyongo Elvis (aka Dog Liiso), Sekyore Ronnie (aka Iyite), Wahabu Kisekka (aka Webs Unruly), Mawanda Imran, Kasule Shafiq (aka Fik), Wamami Mike Dad, Wamakuyu Sadat, and Steven Odere, a promoter.
Meanwhile, in Matugga, a joint operation with the UPDF on June 10, 2024, targeted criminal gangs at a dark spot in Mabanda cell.
According to Onyango, these gangs were known for smoking opium and chewing miraa (commonly known as Nkwacho) before attacking and terrorizing the community. The operation resulted in 23 arrests, with two female suspects among them.
He explains that after a joint screening with local councils, intelligence, and other stakeholders, nine suspects were cautioned and released.
Thirteen suspects were charged with being in possession of opium and attempting to commit a felony. The suspects, found with marijuana, include Mutebi Bakar, Senogga Eric, Kintu Sulaiman, Elelu Michael, Jjunju Paul, Musinguzi James, Ssesazi Nicholas, Ssemogerere Isaac, Silas Mario, Isingoma Fred, Musana Bosco, Mukisa Rogers, and Mubonera Robert.
Onyango says suspects from these operations are being held at various police stations, with ongoing investigations to bring all culprits to justice.
“These operations are part of our ongoing efforts to rid Kampala Metropolitan of criminal activities. We are determined to ensure the safety and security of our residents. The arrested individuals will face the law, and we will continue to target and dismantle these criminal networks.”he noted
