Police in Kajjansi, Entebbe are holding the driver of a white Fuso truck, with registration number UBB 891J for knocking a pedestrian dead and fleeing.
The incident happened on Thursday, 29th May 2024 at 2:00 AM at the Total Petrol Station in Kitende, along the Kampala-Entebbe Road.
According to eyewitnesses, the Fuso truck that was loaded with matooke was allegedly overspeeding when it knocked an unidentified person before fleeing the scene. Another account suggests that the deceased was pushed off the truck, which then continued on its route.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, says concerned members of the public trailed the vehicle,up to Kasubi where it was intercepted and the driver arrested.
Owoyesigyire has not divulged identities of the victim and driver. He however notes that the body of the deceased has been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.
He further explains that because of the conflicting statements from eyewitnesses, the case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Kajjansi to ascertain the precise circumstances leading to the individual’s death.
