Police Alert Public on New Wave of Conmen Using Phone Calls

The police have alerted the public about a rising threat from a new group of fraudsters engaging in imposter phone calls.

The criminals are masquerading as VIPs, prominent government officials, business people, and utility company billing officers. The scam involves requesting payments for wedding contributions, utility bills, and donations.

In response to numerous complaints from the public, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) has initiated a thorough investigation into these fraudulent activities.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesman, has urged citizens to remain vigilant and to verify the identity of any caller requesting money by asking detailed questions to the caller, contacting the supposed beneficiary directly through known, legitimate phone numbers, avoiding conversations with follow-up individuals connected to the initial call, and reporting any suspicious calls to the nearest police station immediately.

Enanga assured the public that all available tools and resources are being deployed to dismantle this imposter call racket. He further warned that anyone exploiting innocent citizens through such deceptive practices will be tracked down and held accountable for their actions, regardless of their location.

Enanga asked the public to stay alert and help in the efforts to curb this growing menace.
