PM Nabbanja Threatens to Terminate Kampala Road Contractors Over Delays and Poor Performance
The Prime Minister Nabbanja Robinah has warned Road Contractors in Kampala that government will not hesitate to terminate their contracts if they fail to deliver as per the contract agreements.
The Prime Minister together with the Kampala Minister and Metropolitan Affairs Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, State Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye and the KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka and other inspected some of the ongoing road works in Kampala whose contracts were awarded to Chinese companies.
The inspection followed numerous complaints about potholes on Kampala roads and the slow response from government.
The Premier and team inspected road works on Sir Apollo Kaggwa, Kyebando ring road,7th Street and 8th Street in Namuwongo.
Nabbanja expressed discontent over the low pace of the road works on the inspected roads whose contracts were awarded in 2023.
The contractors attribute the delay to failure of the utility companies to shift cables from the road to allow smooth construction.
The Visibly angry Nabbanja cancelled the inspection and summoned KCCA officials and the contractors to her office where she grilled the contractors threatening to have them arrested over breach of contract.
