PM Nabbanja Leads in Pilgrimage to Honor Ugandan Martyrs at St. Andrea Kaahwa
The Prime Nabbanja Robinah on Sunday officiated at the annual pilgrimage as thousands of pilgrims thronged the Catholic Shrine in Kooki to celebrate the life of St Andrea Kaahwa and pray to him for God’s Mercy.
It should noted that St. Andrea Kaahwa (1856 – May 26, 1886) was a Ugandan Catholic martyr killed for his faith and was born in Kooki Haibaale in the current Kakumiro District.
At this site, there is a Martyrs’ well, footprints and other unique features of Andrea Kaahwa, Christians throng this area every May 26 to pray for Kaahwa, and the majority take the water from this place for healing and blessings.
Prime Minister Nabbanja said that Kaahwa was one of many Christians killed by King Mwanga II between 1885 and 1887 adding he is the patron of Catechists, Teachers and Families.
The main service at this place was led the Fortportal Diocese Bishop Robert K Muhiirwa.
Bishop Kirabo Vincent and a cross Section of religious and political leaders graced the occasion.
