Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah has instructed all local council leaders to identify Ugandans affected by TB and Leprosy, ensuring they are prioritized in all government programs.

The Prime Minister highlighted that these vulnerable individuals often spend a significant portion of their household income on TB-related care, which undermines their economic progress.

Nabbanja made these remarks today while officiating the 7th Annual TB and Leprosy Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

According to surveys conducted by the Ministry of Health in 2022, approximately 96,000 Ugandans are diagnosed with TB each year. Alarmingly, experts from the Ministry of Health have revealed that 27 people die from TB in Uganda daily.

Describing the situation as deeply concerning and in need of immediate intervention, Nabbanja reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing these challenges.

As Uganda’s End TB Champion, the Prime Minister emphasized the NRM government’s determination to eliminate TB and Leprosy by 2030.

The annual conference is being held under the theme: “Advancing Multi-Sectoral and Multi-Stakeholder Engagement and Accountability to End TB and Achieve Zero Leprosy in Uganda.”
