The Kololo Ceremonial Grounds were a scene of colour and excitement today as thousands of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters turned up to welcome President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni after his official nomination for the 2026 presidential elections.

From the early hours of the morning, groups of supporters in yellow outfits streamed into the grounds, waving party flags, singing, and dancing to traditional drums and vuvuzelas. Banners bearing Museveni’s portrait and the slogan “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status” lined the venue, while cultural troupes entertained the waiting crowds.

When Museveni arrived at Kololo, flanked by the First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni and senior NRM leaders, the atmosphere intensified. Supporters erupted into cheers, with many raising placards expressing loyalty to the President and confidence in his re-election bid.

Security was visibly heavy. Police and army personnel manned all access routes, and traffic diversions were enforced to allow the event to proceed smoothly. Despite the large turnout, the atmosphere remained orderly.

The gathering at Kololo was not only a political rally but also a showcase of party strength, unity, and popular mobilisation.
