Police in Mubende have confirmed the arrest of a pastor identified as Alex Mugisha of the Prophecy Pentecostal Church for killing his biological son, Samuel Niyokusiima. Mugisha.
The deceased Niyokusiima had been suffering from psychological lapses. According to his mother, Mediya Mukanohere, Mugisha had severally complained to her that their son was demon possessed and expensive to maintain. She found him moments after he had chopped off the boy’s head and was attempting to flee the scene.
Mukanohere further claimed that Mugisha had been mistreating and attempting to chase her out of their home despite their eight children.
Upon his arrest, Mugisha confessed to the murder, citing psychological challenges as the cause.
“Yes, I killed but I was attacked by psychological challenges and I also went to the hospital. It wasn’t my intention to kill him and I’m sorry for that,” Mugisha told the police.
The gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through the Kanseera community, raising concerns about the rise of born-again churches and their potential hidden agendas. Locals have expressed their disbelief and horror at the incident.
“We are so shocked seeing a pastor kill his own son, we have never witnessed such a case,” said oneresident.
Rachel Kawala, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that Mugisha had been taken into custody and that investigations are underway.
“We have taken Pastor Alex Mugisha into custody and inquiries have started into the matter,” Kawala stated.
