Parliament Wants Gen Kyaligonza Recalled from Burundi as Ambassador
Members of Parliament have adopted a motion to recall Maj Gen (Rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza as ambassador to Burundi.
This is after he was filmed on Sunday reportedly assaulting a female traffic officer, Sgt Esther Namaganda along with his two body guards.
According to Internal Affairs minister, Gen Jeje Odongo, who regrets the incident, said that the two UPDF body guards; RA/221607 L/CPL Peter Bushindiki and RA/230927 Pte John Robert. Okurut have been arrested and will face the military court while Gen Kyaligonza has been summoned to record his statement.
This won’t be the first time Uganda’s ambassador is recalled. Last year, Uganda’s Deputy Ambassador to Washington D.C, Dickson Ogwang was recalled for allegedly battering his wife.
In November last year, Turkish Ambassador to Uganda, Sedef Yavuzalp for recalled for indecent dressing. Ambassador Yavuzalp had been reportedly been photographed wearing a dress inspired by ancient Greece at a reception for Turkey’s annual Republic Day.
