Parliament Pays Tribute to Late MP Aleper

Parliament paid tribute to the former Moroto Municipality Member of Parliament, Simon Peter Aleper, who also served as the vice chairperson for the National Resistance Movement. Aleper died in a car crash along Tirinyi Road in eastern Uganda on Tuesday.

The body of the late Aleper was received by Speaker Annet Anita Among, who was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, members of the NRM Central Executive Committee, and other MPs at Parliament on Tuesday, July 25, 2024.

Speaker Among described Aleper as a passionate leader who prioritized the well-being of the people of Karamoja and Uganda as a whole.

“Hon. Aleper Simon Peter, you fought a good fight and won. May your soul rest in perfect peace as God protects your dear family. Rest in peace, Simon,” the speaker said.

Deputy Speaker Tayebwa highlighted Aleper’s dedication to Karamoja affairs and praised his effectiveness as a mobilizer.

“He worked hard to ensure that children from Karamoja were off the streets of Kampala,” Tayebwa shared. He also noted Aleper’s unwavering dedication to the NRM party and his support for the implementation of government programs across all regions.

Vice President Jessica Alupo remarked that Aleper strongly opposed discrimination based on tribe, religion, gender, and age.

“He was one of the NRM members who would tell whoever wanted to hear that Uganda should pursue politics of interests as opposed to politics of biology,” Alupo said.
