The Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Green Hydrogen Fertilizer Company to advance farmer extension program focused on fertilizer use and traceability, laying the foundation for increased yields, improved quality and global export competitiveness.

The signing of a memorandum ceremony took place at Serena Hotel in Kampala with Mathew Bagonza the Head of Administration at PACEID singing on behalf of the committee in the presence of Asmud Aukrust the Norwegian Minister of International Development. Green Hydrogen Fertilizer Company is currently developing a production facility in Uganda with a project capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year. “Fertilizer is not just an output but a catalyst for higher yields, better quality and stronger export value chains, that’s why this collaboration is central to PACEID’s export agenda”, said Mathew Bagonza.

The Partnership comes as Uganda accelerates agro industrialization with fertilizer access and proper usage identified as critical drivers of increased yields, improved quality and higher farmer incomes.

Under the memorandum of understanding the parties will support farmer training programs, establish demonstration plots, enhance agro dealer networks and leverage existing government systems such as the agricultural cluster development programs e-voucher platform to improve monitoring and traceability of fertilizer use.

The Partnership directly supports the promotion mandate of PACEID by strengthening agricultural value chains from farm to market, increased productivity and improved product quality are expected to enhance Uganda’s competitiveness in global markets particularly for key export crops such as coffee, maize, tea and cocoa.

The collaboration also opens opportunities for development partner support, agribusiness growth and rural economic transformation positioning Uganda to move from substance agriculture towards commercially viable export oriented production systems.
