Over 40 Heads of State to Attend Museveni’s Swearing in Ceremony

President Yoweri Museveni invited forty-two heads of state from across the world to attend his swearing-in ceremony on May 12, according to the presidency minister Esther Mbayo.

21 have so far confirmed, the minister said.

The function, which will be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, will be attended by a few invited people, who, in addition to the aforementioned, include 17 delegates from each district, all members of parliament elect and all former presidential candidates who participated in the January 14″ general elections.

Others are all ministers and ministers of state, all CEC members, members of the East African legislative assembly, a few people belonging to the business community, a few religious leaders, a few cultural leaders, and half list of the normal VIPs, the minister said.

President Museveni won the Feb. 14 election with 58.64%, beating 10 other candidates, including the closest challenger, Bobi Wine, who had 34.83%.

The swearing-in theme is ‘Securing the Future, and the event will start at 7am.

Since 1986 under NRM’S leadership, Uganda has held several elections, beginning with indirect elections of 1987, 1989, 1992 and progressing steadily to electing Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government leaders directly through universal adult suffrage in 1996, after the promulgation of the 1995 pro-people Constitution. Since then, five such elections have been conducted, i.e., 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021.

The making of a pro-people Constitution in 1995 by the people themselves, was a big and strong block for building and entrenchment of the democratic system and culture of having elected leaders through regular free and fair elections at every level. Uganda’s economy in 1986 was a mere US$1.5 billion.

Today it is Shs64 trillion, or about US$ 24 billion. In terms of size, the economy has expanded 16 times in the last 28 years.
