A total of 301 samples tested negative for COVID-19 in Uganda on Thursday night, with only one emerging positively.
This was announced by the country’s health ministry, which put the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak to 45.
A Thursday night statement revealed that the latest case was of a 22-year-old Ugandan female, resident of Nkokonjeru in Wakiso district.
She is a wife of a previously confirmed case who arrived from Dubai in UEA on March 20.
“She did not have any signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19,” the ministry said.
“A total of 1,026 individuals are under follow up in the institutional quarantine. A total of 962 contacts to the confirmed cases are under follow up,” the ministry said.
The ministry also said all the previously confirmed 44 cases were in stable condition at Mulago Specialised Hospital, Entebbe Grade B Hospital, Adjumani and Hoima hospitals.
“Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 related death,” the ministry said.
“The ministry continues to appeal to the general population to remain calm but vigilant and practice the preventive measures.
Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub at least three times a day, maintain a social distance of at least four meters and if you have flu-like symptoms, cover your nose and mouth with a mask,” the ministry advised.
Uganda has since banned both public and private transport, with only service vehicles being allowed to move.
The country also banned travel to and out of the East African nation.
Shopping malls and arcades remain closed while markets are only open for food items.
Supermarkets, food stores, pharmacies and agricultural shops also remain open. Saloons, lodges and garages were closed for 14 days.
Uganda has started implementing a nationwide curfew that starts at 7:00pm and ends at 6:30am.
