Over 2,900 Fireworks Applications Approved Ahead of New-year’s Celebrations
The Uganda Police Force has processed over 2,900 applications for fireworks displays across the country ahead of the new years celebrations.
Speaking to journalists at the police headquarters on Monday, December 30, 2024, Kituuma Rusoke, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, more approvals are expected as the New Year approaches.
Kituma revealed that only seven licensed fireworks blaster companies have been approved to professionally handle the fireworks display countrywide including; Tomil fireworks limited, fireworks 7000 limited, Light Africa, Goshem Africa, Quality lighting Uganda, Frames Uganda and Fesco limited.
The police also reminded organizers of events to adhere to strict guidelines, including ensuring that all materials are handled by certified personnel and that displays are conducted in designated safe areas.
He noted that the public needs to be aware of the above companies to avoid being duped by unsuspecting con stars.
He reiterated comprehensive guidelines for all approved displays.
Key requirements include All fire works displays must be advertised in print on pages 1, 2, 3 and 4 specifically and electronic and print media, with conspicuous and large fonts, ensuring fire extinguishers are on hand, and adhering to a strict five-minute display time limit. Organizers are urged to maintain safety protocols and seek supervision from security personnel during the events.
The police have advised that only licensed and approved fireworks will be allowed. According to Kituuma, the use of illegal fireworks poses a serious risk to public safety and disrupts public order.
The public is encouraged to report any unauthorized fireworks displays to law enforcement.
