Kampala – The Uganda Police Force has intensified its crackdown on crime, arresting over 1,000 suspects in a week-long, nationwide operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring public safety. The announcement was made during the weekly press conference at Police Headquarters in Naguru by ACP Rusooke Kituuma, Police spokesperson.
Between 16th and 22nd February 2026, security agencies conducted intelligence-led operations across Kampala Metropolitan and several upcountry regions, targeting criminal hideouts, blackspots, and narcotics hubs. The operations led to the arrest of 1,095 suspects involved in burglary, aggravated robbery, narcotics, street mugging, and other criminal activities.
Several suspects were screened, with many taken to court while others received cautions following verification of their criminal records. Recovered exhibits included pangas and other dangerous weapons, breaking implements, narcotics, stolen motor vehicle parts, multiple SIM cards, and livestock, including three bulls and a motor vehicle from Luwero. Fire and Rescue Services also conducted life-saving operations, including rescuing a juvenile who fell into a pit in Masindi.

In Entebbe, rapid response operations following online distress videos led to arrests of key suspects linked to aggravated robbery. In Gulu City and Elegu Town Council, joint forces recovered SIM cards, breaking implements, and marijuana from rogue elements, while operations in Luwero and Nakaseke targeted suspects involved in burglaries and simple robberies. Traffic enforcement in Nakawa and Lugogo recovered stolen vehicle parts from vandals.
ACP Kituuma emphasized that many operations were guided by community intelligence, complaints from residents, and support from boda-boda riders and local leaders. “Our primary objectives are to disrupt criminal gangs, prevent night crime, and support lawful business by ensuring neighbourhoods are free from rogue elements,” he said.
On 22nd February, security agencies conducted a targeted operation in Orwadai, Soroti City, following reports of illegal issuance of passports and immigration-related documents by a woman identified as Abilo Tesira. The operation recovered 261 passports, several certificates of good conduct, and yellow fever cards. She is currently under police custody as investigations continue.
ACP Kituuma reiterated Uganda Police’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations in collaboration with the public, sister security agencies, and local authorities to keep communities safe.
