A fire has gutted Kakungulu Memorial School in Kibuli, Makindye Division, Kampala, destroying property and injuring one student.

The blaze engulfed a dormitory housing 52 Senior 3 (S.3) boys at around 12:50 am, according to police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.

According to Owoyesigyire, Police Fire Brigade was promptly called to the scene and managed to put out the fire, but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. One student sustained burn injuries and was taken to Kibuli Hospital for treatment. He clarifies that no fatalities have been reported in the incident.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at the Rose Bakery located at the Entebbe Municipality headquarters. The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue team responded quickly and successfully contained the fire before it could spread to nearby structures. Owoyesigyire notes that significant property damage was recorded, including the loss of cooking equipment and food supplies.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing to determine the exact causes.

Owoyesigyire praised the swift actions of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team, which prevented further destruction and loss of life. He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any potential fire hazards immediately.
