One Confirmed Dead in City House Mid-morning Fire
The mid-morning fire that erupted in City House on Luwum Street in Kampala has resulted in the tragic death of an unidentified individual, whose body has been transported to the morgue, as confirmed by the police.
The historic building is home to Uganda’s oldest political organization, the Democratic Party, as well as several businesses, including the renowned shoe retailer, Bata.
The extensive fire, which began around 8am as businesses commenced operations, led to the entrapment of multiple individuals within the multi-storied building. Fortunately, the Uganda Police fire brigade was able to rescue those trapped. However, the fire spread to neighboring buildings, requiring police to work diligently to contain it.
Emergency services, including fire brigades, police, and ambulances remain actively engaged in rescue operations as the fire at City House continues to cause traffic congestion in the town center.
Given City House’s historical significance in Kampala, further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
