National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary aspirant Prossy Mukisa has been remanded to Mityana Government Prison after court proceedings were adjourned due to challenges in verifying her bail sureties.
Mukisa is facing charges related to offensive communication involving minors. The prosecution alleges that she featured children in a political video, which they claim was defamatory and unethical.
Her lawyer, Emmanuel Kiyinji, dismissed the accusations as politically motivated, arguing that all bail requirements had been met and urging the court not to be used for political intimidation.
However, the court learned that efforts to verify the national IDs of Mukisa’s sureties at the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) office in Mityana had failed due to biometric equipment failure. As a result, Grade One Magistrate Obed Mugizi remanded Mukisa and adjourned the matter to allow verification.
Outside court, Kiyinji accused the prosecution of deliberate delays, while Mukisa’s supporters condemned her detention as part of a wider campaign to suppress the opposition ahead of the 2026 general elections.
