The National Unity Platform (NUP) Election Management Committee (EMC) has announced the official vetting program for candidates vying for the party flag in the upcoming Kawempe North Member of Parliament by-election and the LC3 Councillor for Kazo Angola Ward.

The vetting exercise is scheduled for Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala. According to the released schedule for Parliamentary Candidates, 10 candidates have been shortlisted for the Kawempe North MP position.

Mercy Walukamba, Chairperson of the NUP Election Management Committee says each candidate has been assigned a specific time slot, starting from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, and candidates are allowed to bring a maximum of five delegates each to the vetting session.

Meanwhile, the schedule for LC3 Councillor aspirants has two candidates, Yiga Musa Ngobya and Setuba Habibah, will be vetted between 3:10 p.m. and 3:50 p.m.

The Kawempe North seat fell vacant following the passing of the late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya. The NUP aims to finalize its candidate selection in time for the Electoral Commission’s by-election timetable.

Walukamba reveals that the vetting process will ensure transparency and fairness as the party selects the most suitable flag bearers.
