NUP Principal Suspends Deputy President Mpuuga Over Bribery Allegations
According to Kyagulanyi, Mpuuga failed to satisfactorily explain his involvement when the Parliamentary Commission awarded him a Ugx 500 million
National Unity Platform party President Robert Kyagulanyi has suspended Nyendo Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga from the position of Deputy President and recommended an investigation by the National Executive Committee of the party into an alleged Ugx 500 million bribery plot. This decision was made on Thursday.
A letter, signed by Party President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, was sent to Mpuuga informing him of the matter.
According to Kyagulanyi, Mpuuga failed to satisfactorily explain his involvement when the Parliamentary Commission awarded him a Ugx 500 million service award.
In 2022, the commission agreed to award each commissioner Ugx 400 and the Leader of the Opposition Ugx 500 for their two and a half tenure as members of the Parliamentary Commission.
NUP rejected the award during the Uganda Parliamentary Exhibition, labeling it as a bribe. The party also urged Mpuuga to resign as Parliamentary Commissioner, a position he vehemently refused.
His suspension exacerbates an already volatile situation at the party headquarters, where top leaders have been at odds with one another.
