Two NUP MPs to be Quizzed Over Masaka Killings

The Police are investigating opposition Members of Parliament belonging to the National Unity Platform (NUP) over murders and insecurity in the Greater Masaka Sub-region.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has summoned Kawempe North MP Muhammed Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana, Makindye West MP, to aid ongoing investigations into the rampant murders in the greater Masaka sub-region.

The two NUP legislators have been summoned to appear at Masaka Police Station on 6th September, 2021 at 10am before D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement in respect to the said investigations.

The government has been concerned over heightened incidents of insecurity in the greater Masaka sub region where at least 26 people have been killed in the last 2 months.

While addressing Parliament on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Gen David Muhoozi said that these murders are not motivated by proprietary gain since nothing is usually taken from the victims. This has prompted security agencies to expand their investigations across the political lines. Gen Muhoozi described these murders as reprehensible adding that the immoral approach of killing Ugandans is “shallow and untenable and will be defeated.”

Before and after the 2021 elections, Opposition camps have been involved in several political smear campaigns intended to cause chaos, tension and destabilize President Museveni and the NRM government such as “Tubalemeese” (let’s fail them), “Ajja ngenda” (he will go), “Tajja fuga” (he will not govern) etc.
