NUP Leaders Told To Seek Permission From Prison Authorities To Visit Sick MP In Mulago
The Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral hospital.
The ailing National Unity Platform (NUP) MP was on Sunday morning transferred to the hospital from Luzira prison health facility after his condition worsened.
On Monday morning, opposition members from his party led by Principal RobertKyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine stormed the venue to check on him, however, they were denied access and instead turned away.
Bobi Wine visited the facility with Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson, and Secretary General David Rubongoya at about 11am. But the security officer on the floor housing the legislator refused them entry on grounds that they needed to seek permission from the prison authorities.
The officer stated that the NUP MP is under the watch and guardianship of Uganda Prisons at the moment.
Ssewanyana’s Lawyer Erias Lukwago who has access to the MP says his condition is critical.
The MP was arrested and detained in September 2021 on charges of murder, attempted murder and terrorism. He was arrested alongside Kawempe North MP Ssegirinya Muhammed.
