President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday evening met with a section of National Unity Platform (NUP) coordinators and members at State House Entebbe to discuss how they can work together to develop the country.
In a tweet on Thursday evening, the President said he appreciates the views of the NUP leaders on the failures of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and he promised to work with them to address the cited failures.
“Meeting a section of coordinators and members for the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) at State House Entebbe. I appreciate their views on the different failures of the NRM), and my assurance is that we shall work together to address such,” Museveni tweeted.
President Museveni is known for being accommodative by accepting to meet and listen to opposition politicians even when they follow different political lines.
Museveni has severally attended the Inter-party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) meetings where he has met and discussed several issues about the development of the country with opposition politicians.
The meeting has already attracted mixed reactions, with many people welcoming the move as a good gesture. The Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, announced President Museveni the winner of the presidential elections with 58%, beating his other 10 contestants.
Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine came second with 35%. The legislator contested the results in court, but he later withdrew the case.
Other candidates were; Nobert Mao (Democratic Party), Patrick Amuriat Oboi (Forum for Democratic Change) and Gen. Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation).
Others including; Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde, Joseph Kabuleta, Nancy Kalembe, Willy Mayambala, John Katumba, and Fred Mwesigye stood as independents.
