Number of Rwandan Nationals Fleeing to Uganda Grows Amid Heightened Tension

Following heightened tension within Rwanda after the attack on Burundi along with a spate of offensives from armed groups in DR Congo, the number Rwandans fleeing into Uganda for calm and safety has tremendously grown, despite the government of Rwanda advising her citizens about coming to Uganda.

Reports indicate that the numbers of the Rwandan nationals fleeing the country fearing for their safety continue to rise, the largest group so far, having sneaked into Uganda on Monday.

Ugandan security agencies including Police, Internal Security Organization (ISO), External Security Organization (ESO) and UPDF’s Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) conducted a joint operation on Monday after dozens of Rwandan nationals crossed into Uganda through Kisoro district.

The joint operation is aimed at ensuring that there are no criminal elements infiltrating the fleeing innocent Rwandans in a bid to compromise Uganda’s national security.

The Rwandans fleeing their country are using unofficial border points since the official border points were closed by Rwanda.
