NRM SG Todwong Confirms No Extension for Register Update Exercise

Richard Todwong, the secretary general of the NRM, has affirmed that there will be no extension for the party’s register update campaign.

The register update, conducted from March 13 to 17, has reportedly excluded many party loyalists who failed to register or update their affiliate details.

This update signifies a strategic maneuver for the NRM party, aiming to fortify their base for the 2026 elections.

A precise register will serve as their guiding compass, enabling them to assess supporter strength accurately and plan effective campaigns.

Todwong emphasized that extending the deadline could disrupt the entire registration process.

He added that those who have not yet registered will have their opportunity in due time.

“Extending the deadline would disrupt our planning, so we urge members, even those who have not registered, to remain patient as there will be another opportunity for registration,” he stated.

“For instance, we have not yet registered NRM students who are currently in schools. It wouldn’t be feasible to request holidays from the Minister of Education for registration purposes,” he further explained.

Todwong mentioned that when students are on holiday, the party will reopen the registration, providing another chance for those who have not registered to do so. Patience is key.”

Furthermore, Todwong clarified the issue of age, emphasizing its significance.

“According to our constitution, to become a party member, one must be aged 16 and above. However, to be a voter as mandated by the national constitution, one must be 18 years and above,” he clarified.

“So, while updating the membership register, we registered individuals aged 16 and above. But when extracting the voters register from the membership register, only those aged 18 and above will be included.”
