The Ruling National Resistance Movement Central Executive Committee (CEC) sitting at State House Entebbe Thursday has approved the much-awaited party election Roadmap and adopted lining behind the candidates as a mode of voting.

According to Emmanuel Dombo, NRM director of Information and Communications, CEC members unanimously agreed to adopt the lining up strategy amidst fears of COVID-19.

Last year, NRM adopted the lining up strategy as a new method of voting, but the outbreak of COVID-19 threatened the adoption of this method because it is difficult to observe social distancing.

However, Dombo said that this mode of voting will be done in conformity with the Ministry of Health guidelines.

Dombo said the nomination for Members of Parliament and LC 5 Chairpersons will be carried out from 10th to 17th August in Kampala, while nomination for Special Interest Groups (SIG) will take place from 20th to 22nd July and voting for the same will be on 25th July 2020.

Election for MPs will take place on 7th September 2020 and election for the LC 5 Chairpersons, Councilors, Municipal Mayors and Division Mayors, LC 3 chairpersons and their councilors will be on 28th August 2020.
He added that all elections will take place on the same day throughout the Country contrary to earlier reports that it would be held in Regions.

CEC also resolved that the mode of voting for members directly elected to the Central Executive Committee and Presidential Flag Bearer shall be by resolution by circulation.
