NRM Secretary General Urges Electoral Officers to Uphold Integrity

The Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Richard Todwong has called on the party’s District electoral commission officers to maintain honesty and truthfulness during the election process.

Todwong made these statements during an engagement with election registrars and their deputies at the NRM electoral commission offices in Nakasero.

He emphasized that conducting internal elections with integrity and avoiding compromise would decrease the number of independent candidates in the final elections.

Todwong sternly warned, “Registrars found involved in electoral misconduct will face dismissal with disgrace, tarnishing the image of the ruling party that has effectively led Uganda for many years.”

He further added, “Discipline among NRM leaders will fortify the party’s longevity and appeal for years to come.”

Given the recently released electoral commission roadmap for the 2026 general elections, Todwong urged electoral officers to prepare for upcoming party activities, such as the elections of party structures and the verification of NRM electoral registers to ensure they remain on the right track.

Barbara Nekesa Oundo, the NRM National treasurer, reiterated the importance of fairness and honesty among NRM leaders in fulfilling their party’s mandate. She stated, “The people have chosen us to serve them, and it is our duty to do so effectively.”

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, challenged the registrars to unite and mediate conflicts among party members impartially. He advised, “Maintain neutrality and resolve disputes among our members while being accessible to our loyal supporters.”

The meeting was attended by key figures in the NRM, including the Director of Mobilization, Hon. Rose Seninde, Electoral Commission Vice Chairman, Hon. John Kigyagi, Director of External Affairs, Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar, and Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, Hon. Jane Alisemera.
