The NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong commissioned the newly constructed NRM Party offices in Bugiri district, at a function attended by Hundreds of NRM supporters.
Built by Hon. Solomon Silwany, the Member of Parliament for Bukooli Central, the office was handed over to the NRM leadership during the ceremony held at Bukooli College Grounds in Bugiri.
Addressing the jubilant supporters, Rt. Hon. Todwong commended Hon Silwany and all who contributed to the construction of the office, describing it as an important symbol of the party’s presence and commitment to the people of Bugiri.
“Thank you, the people of Bugiri District, for your generous contribution in gifting your party with a brand-new office. Congratulations on your dedication and commitment to strengthening your party.
A party office in your district is something significant. It is the foundation and the symbol that the party is alive in this particular district” Todwong said.
The Secretary-General rallied the party members to reflect on the NRM’s historical journey and its core philosophy of unity and development. He emphasized that the NRM’s ideology transcends religious, gender, and ethnic differences, focusing instead on addressing the common needs of all Ugandans. “Whether you are a Muslim or a Catholic, you need schools, roads, water, and health centres. Poverty does not discriminate, and neither should our efforts to fight it,” he stated.
The Rt Hon Todwong highlighted the NRM’s distinct approach to governance and development, which he argued sets it apart from other political parties. “The NRM stands for peace, stability, and development. While other parties blame President Yoweri Museveni for Uganda’s challenges, we focus on tackling backwardness, poverty, and illiteracy,” he said. He attributed the party’s continued electoral success to its commitment to these principles and its ability to deliver tangible results.
The Secretary-General also took time and explain the importance of party assets, such as the newly launched office, in advancing the NRM’s agenda. “A political party stands for its philosophy, ideology, strategy, human resources, and assets. This office is a critical asset that will help us expand our reach and strengthen our presence in Bugiri,” he noted.
Todwong also reminded the gathering of the NRM’s role in restoring peace and stability in Uganda. He contrasted the current environment, where security forces coexist harmoniously with civilians, with the past, when uniformed personnel were feared and often abused their power. “The peace we enjoy today is a result of the NRM’s revolutionary methods. It is the foundation upon which we are building a prosperous Uganda,” he said.
Rt Hon Todwong touched on the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government initiative aimed at alleviating poverty at the grassroots level. While expressing hope that the funds were being used effectively in Bugiri, he cautioned against mismanagement. “In some districts, the money is not reaching the communities as intended. This should not be the case here. We must ensure transparency and accountability in all our programs,” he stated.
Hon. Solomon Silwany thanked the Secretary-General for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit and interact with the people of Bugiri. He urged residents to continue supporting government programmes.
The ceremony was also attended by, the Bunya South MP, Hon Iddi Isabirye, who is the Chairperson of the first Busoga Parliamentary Caucus, RDC Mr.Kalikwani Paul, Ass. RDC Mr. Situma Gilbert among other leaders.
