NRM Launches Nomination Exercise for Kisoro District Woman MP By-Election

Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, officially launched the nomination exercise for NRM candidates vying for the party flag ahead of the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.

This election, scheduled for November, is being held to fill the seat left vacant by the late Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, who also served as State Minister for Defense.

The three-day nomination process kicked off today at the NRM Electoral Commission’s office, located at Plot 13, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, with the nomination of five contestants. The aspirants include Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, Dushime Sylvia, Igiraneza Winfred Faith, and Irankunda Jemimah.

“We are confident that the NRM will retain the Kisoro seat.

The district is a stronghold of the party, and we do not anticipate any serious competition once we present our candidate,” Dr. Tanga remarked.

The NRM Electoral Commission reaffirmed its dedication to conducting a free and fair election, stressing that “no individual, not even the party chairman, will be allowed to manipulate the process.”

“Any attempt to influence the election outcomes outside the proper channels will be met with firm resistance,” Dr. Tanga added.

The Commission also warned the candidates against engaging in divisive actions or violence, cautioning that such behavior could lead to disqualification.

With the mourning period for Hon. Nyirabashitsi now concluded, focus has shifted to the by-election.

The NRM is determined to select a candidate who will “lead Kisoro forward,” and Dr. Tanga urged all the contestants to concentrate on their future plans for the district, rather than dwelling on past events.
