NRM kicks off Nationwide Registration Drive Amid Bribery Allegations and Voter Integrity Concerns”

As the National Resistance Movement Party (NRM) commence the updating their register nationwide today, Wednesday, March 13th, registrars have been cautioned against accepting bribes from politicians during the exercise.

Ronald Ndawula, the chairperson of the NRM in Luwero district, disclosed that materials and yellow books for use in the 18 sub-counties have already been delivered in preparation for the exercise.

Ndawula expressed concern about members registering non-NRM supporters, which could lead to inaccurate results.

“If non-NRM members are included in the register, it will complicate the process and potentially yield incorrect candidates. It undermines the integrity of the registration process, which was established with good intentions,” Ndawura emphasized during a media briefing.

He urged all registrars, including NRM members at the cell and village levels, to exercise caution when entering individuals into the register.

“Failure to do so may undermine the credibility of the register and the entire electoral process,” he added.

The registration initiative was inaugurated by President Museveni on February 28, 2024, as part of the NRM party’s electoral roadmap for the 2026 elections.

The President emphasized the importance of knowing the number of party supporters and mobilizing to attract more members.

However, he cautioned against opposition attempts to infiltrate and disrupt NRM primaries.

“We must not rush to register individuals who are not genuinely aligned with the NRM. Registration should only include those with a credible history of supporting the party and verified by villagers or witnesses. Let’s protect our party and its loyal members,” urged the President.

The registration process entails displaying and updating the NRM register at every village in Uganda from today March 13 to March 17, 2024.
