Notorious Thug Dies in Gun Exchange with Police
Police in Busia District were compelled to put out of action a suspected armed robber following a gun exchange at Arubaine market located in Maweru East “B.
The suspect, identified as Kudu Ashraf, alias Mr. X, was known for his notorious criminal activities.
Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson says the suspect attacked his victim Najjuko Prossy, a money exchange dealer operating at Arubaine market at 2:30pm on September 25,2023.
He explains that the suspect robbed money from his victim on gun point but failed to escape as police officers stormed the crime scene and attempted to arrest the suspect. In the process, Ashraf fired live bullets at the officers prompting a gun exchange that fatally injured the suspect.
Enanga said the victim, Najjuko, was similarly injured in the fire exchange and rushed to Busia Health Center IV for medical attention.
He says law enforcement officers recovered a submachine gun (SMG) with 16 rounds of ammunition, as well as cash totaling Ugandan Shillings 21,175,000 and Kenyan Shillings 612,005. Three mobile phones belonging to the suspect were also seized. The victim, Najjuko Prossy, was promptly transported to Busia Health Center IV for medical attention.
Meanwhile, in Otuke District, the police and UPDF (Uganda People’s Defence Forces) foiled a robbery and arrested an armed robber report on September 26, 2023,at 9:00 pm in Agweng cell, Owinyo ward.
The suspect, Ouni Norman Kanuda, a notorious criminal who was also wanted for the theft of a firearm was arrested during an
the operation, an SMG with six rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene. However, it was discovered that 24 bullets were missing, raising concerns about the potential whereabouts of these dangerous rounds.
These recent operations reflect the dedication and effectiveness of the police and UPDF personnel in combatting criminal activities and maintaining public safety. The recovered firearms and the apprehension of the armed robbers have undoubtedly contributed to enhancing security within Otuke and Busia Districts.
