EXCLUSIVE: Museveni Summons UPDF High Command
President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces has summoned the UPDF high command, the Force’s top decision-making body.
The Nile Wires has exclusively established that the President who has been attending the 32nd Ordinary Summit of the African Union Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia sent a radio message to the members of the High Command that is scheduled for Tuesday at State House Entebbe.
The meeting comes after president Museveni approved the promotion of over 2,000 officers including 65 Generals including First Son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, previously a Major General.
Like it has always been in previous engagements, the meeting is expected to focus on national and regional security.
The High Command is mandated to advise the President in emergency situations and on matters relating to national security or deployment of the Defense Forces.
Although the country is enjoying maximum peace, it should be remembered that neighboring Kenya suffered a terror attack at the hands of Somalia’s Al-Shabaab.
Some of the members of the High Command include the president himself as the chairperson; the Minister of Defence, Members of the High Command on January 26, 1986; the Chief of Defense Forces; the Deputy the Chief of Defense Forces; Service Commanders; Chiefs of Staff; Division Commanders and military experts recommended by the President.
Other generals that sit on the High Command include; Salim Saleh, Jeje Odongo, Matayo Kyaligonza, Ivan Koreta, Jim Muhwezi, Steven Kashaka, Kahinda Otafiire, Pecos Kutesa, Joram Mugume, Fred Mwesigye, and Andrew Lutaaya among others.
