The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) on Tuesday decorated all recently promoted generals at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Kampala.

The function, which was presided over by the Minister of State for Defence in Charge of General Duties Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, saw the decoration of seven major generals and 32 brigadiers, one of whom was a female, said the UPDF spokesperson.

The minister reminded the UPDF chiefs that the force has always been distinguished for its high level of professionalism and urged them to perform their duties professionally.

“I, therefore, urge you to embrace this opportunity with open hands and do so with a big commitment to the Nation with all the energy, strength and determination of a proud General,” Minister Engola emphasized.

He also told them to prepare for the challenges ahead, adding that these emerging challenges require a strong and resilient UPDF ready to deal with the dynamics.

On his part, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi urged the officers to embrace the extra responsibility that comes with the new ranks.

“Promotions come with new expectations and added responsibility to the UPDF, to your country, to yourselves and your families. The higher you climb, the higher the stakes,” Gen. Muhoozi said.

He also asked the generals to serve with honor, loyalty, commitment, dedication and valor to the UPDF leadership.

He further commended the families and spouses of the newly promoted officers for supporting and anchoring the promoted Generals.

Also present at the pipping ceremony were the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi, Commander Air Force Lt Gen Charles Lutaaya, the Managing Director of NEC, Lt Gen James Mugira, and the Chief of Personnel and Administration Maj Gen George Igumba, among other UPDF senior officers.
