NEC FC Sets Sights on StarTimes Uganda Premier League

As the second round of the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League resumes on February 11, 2025, all eyes are on the top contenders vying for the prestigious title.

One of the most highly anticipated fixtures of Matchday 16 is the thrilling showdown between NEC FC and KCCA FC, scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

NEC FC has been one of the standout teams of the season, currently occupying second place on the league table with 33 points.

Under the patronage of Lt. Gen. James Mugira, the Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), and the tactical expertise of Head Coach Hussein Mbalangu, the team has displayed exceptional determination in their pursuit of their first-ever StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.

“We Are Here to Compete and Win” said Lt. Gen. James Mugira

Lt. Gen. James Mugira, the passionate Club Patron, has expressed his firm belief in NEC FC’s ability to clinch the league trophy. He underscores the team’s resilience, skill, and never-say-die attitude as key factors that position them as strong title contenders.

“We are fully committed to ensuring our players have the best resources as we approach the decisive stage of the season. Given the immense talent within our squad, I would not be surprised if NEC FC goes all the way to secure our first StarTimes Uganda Premier League title,” he declared.

His confidence is well-founded, backed by the club’s impressive statistics this season. NEC FC has registered 10 victories, drawn 3 matches, and suffered just 2 losses. They have netted 19 goals while maintaining one of the league’s tightest defenses, conceding only 9 goals—the same as current table leaders Vipers SC, who sit at the summit with 34 points.

Head Coach Hussein Mbalangu, renowned for his aggressive and strategic approach to the game, has issued a strong warning to NEC FC’s rivals.

“We are not here to play games—we mean business. We are ready to fight to the very end in our quest for the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title,” Mbalangu asserted.

His confidence is backed by NEC FC’s strong performances against top teams this season. Notably, in their first-round clash against KCCA FC on November 21, 2024, NEC FC emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 win. As they prepare for the rematch, Mbalangu’s side is determined to complete a season double over their Kampala rivals, further solidifying their title credentials.

KCCA FC, currently sitting in fourth place with 24 points, has had an inconsistent campaign, recording 6 wins, 6 draws, and 3 losses. Despite scoring 16 goals, they have struggled defensively, conceding 10 goals. While they remain a formidable opponent, NEC FC’s rock-solid defense and attacking efficiency give them a clear advantage heading into this crucial fixture.

With 15 matches remaining in the season, NEC FC is within striking distance of league leaders Vipers SC. A victory against KCCA FC could be a decisive step toward the top of the table and their ultimate goal of lifting the title.

As the second half of the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League unfolds, all focus remains on NEC FC’s determined pursuit of glory. Under the leadership of Lt. Gen. James Mugira, the tactical discipline of Coach Hussein Mbalangu, and the unwavering commitment of their players, NEC FC is on the brink of a historic achievement.

A win on February 13, 2025, against KCCA FC would further reinforce their position as genuine title contenders, bringing them closer to their maiden StarTimes Uganda Premier League championship. The battle for supremacy is far from over, but NEC FC has proven they belong among the league’s elite and are ready to fight for ultimate victory.
