Parliament is set to host the National Prayer Breakfast on October 8, 2023, at State House Entebbe. The event’s theme is “Fear not, repent and serve the Lord.”

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa announced that the prayer breakfast is open to all Members of Parliament, regardless of their political affiliations.

Tayebwa explained that the purpose of the prayer breakfast is to strengthen the bonds of unity among people of faith across the country and to seek God’s guidance as they serve the people.

However, some legislators are not in favor of the venue choice, believing that hosting the event at State House may discourage opposition members from attending.

Hon. Michael Timuzigu (NRM, Kajara County) suggested changing the venue to Kololo ceremonial grounds to make it more convenient for all people.

Leader of the Opposition Hon. Mathias Mpuuga questioned the requirement for Covid-19 tests when legislators meet the President, emphasizing that this requirement is not imposed elsewhere. He questioned the necessity of such tests specifically for State House visits.

In response, State Minister for Primary Healthcare Hon. Margaret Muhanga emphasized that Covid-19 is still a concern, with the Ministry of Health recording between 50-60 cases per week. She explained that the Ministry’s Scientific Committee advised that anyone meeting the President should undergo a Covid test for safety reasons.

Deputy Speaker Tayebwa instructed the minister to provide an update on the current Covid-19 situation.
